Target Audience

This activity is intended for physicians, residents, medical students, physician assistants/advanced practice providers, nurses, and prehospital clinicians who interpret ECGs or act on ECG findings in emergency, acute-care, hospital, urgent-care, and prehospital settings.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  1. Apply a systematic approach to ECG interpretation, including assessment of rate, rhythm, axis, intervals, conduction, and repolarization.
  2. Differentiate acute coronary occlusion and ischemia from common mimics and recognize high-risk patterns requiring urgent escalation.
  3. Distinguish bradyarrhythmias, atrioventricular block, narrow- and wide-complex tachyarrhythmias, preexcitation, and paced rhythms using key ECG features.
  4. Recognize ECG manifestations of electrolyte, toxicologic, inherited/channelopathy, and structural conditions and prioritize appropriate triage and communication.
